A great day had by all

This morning we joined forces with the dynamic duo at Ink & Spindle and hosted an open studio. We had several waves of folk come through to have a closer look at what goes on around here and the Ink & Spindle ladies had two printing sessions where they demonstrated the process that allows them to produce such beautiful product. They did a wonderful job imparting their printing knowledge with insight and humour whilst ensuring that their patterns were perfectly registered - not an easy job to juggle all those tasks!

We also had a bit of fun setting up shop in the studio - merging our product with the Ink & Spindle goodies. They really complimented each other as you can see in the picture below that features some of our dresses with the I&S lampshades.

Thank you to all the lovelies who came along. Many of you were interested in joining us in some of our up and coming screenprinting classes. Now that you have seen the studio in person it would be hard to resist spending a weekend here immersed in creative output huh? We hope to see you soon.

Hatch

We had a lovely day hosting a stall at Hatch - a market run by Craft Victoria for emerging artists. We managed to produce quite a few extra bats to add to our lineup including big bats to keep those little ones in check and lovely bird cushions that we have added to our range.

We were feeling a little pooped having toiled to the early hours in the lead up to the market and so we took the opportunity to sit around and drink way too much coffee and also do a little shopping with fellow stallholders.

Quite a number of original drawings were bought from Dawn Tan and a lovely little A to Z zine of her favourite things. We love her illustrative style. Below are a few little moments from the zine.

You may have noticed our sweet little dresses in some of our market stall pics.

They are made locally by a terrific seamstress and the detail and quality is impeccable. We use either a beautiful hemp cotton blend or a linen silk and the colour palette is so very delicious.

Anyway we thought that they were close to perfect but needed a little extra Harvest touch.

So we spent some time this week in our new studio printing some of our hand drawn designs on them.

We think the results are exquisite.

Bird is the word

We had a late night studio session yesterday and managed to whip up some of these cute little bird cushions. We have all fallen in love with them and are determined to create a whole flock!
They are all different and satisfy both my cushion and softie addiction! If we can bear to part with them we will bring some to the Craft Hatch market this Saturday....

We have been busily building our bat army! They will be unleashed this Saturday at the Craft Hatch Artisans Market. These scary lil' guys are made from recycled 1940's Army blankets......we only have three blankets so they are a limited edition.
I might have to hit the op shops next week to re-stock our supplies......any excuse for a spot of op shopping!

Our Creative Space

Our new studio......
We have moved the studio for Little Harvest into Ink and Spindle. Its awesome.
We already had half of our gear there as it's where we teach workshops.
Teegs and Lara. C from Ink and Spindle have welcomed us with open arms.
Its going to be so nice getting to know them more as time goes by, and spending time in their beautiful studio is great. If you are ever keen to have a look at the printing studio they run open days occasionally, there is one coming up on the 17th of April.

Already words like "oasis" and "heaven" have been used. Its a special space for all of us away from our families (not that we don't love you guys) where we can come together and breathe some life into products. At present we are making a batch of bats. Screen printing dresses. And designing some new soft toys, more on that later....
Its amazing how productive you can be when you have limitations on your time.
As a wise man once told me...."If you want something done ask a busy person to do it."

While moving in I bumped into some old friends who run Love & Little Salon.
Geneine popped her head out of the car and said " So how many vintage sewing machines do you actually have?"
It was great to see the Love family and their little sprouts.
And yes we do have an awful lot of sewing machines.
Our new studio ranked number one on our weekly five list .....

Little Harvest Shop!

We have just launched an online Little Harvest Shop at present it features a limited range of our products.So cast your eye on the shop from time to time, as we are currently working on two new ranges. A range of baby blankets, bibs and bed linen on some amazingly soft organic jersey.
And an entirely new range of fairytale costumes on organic cotton, screen printed by us of course.
You can below we have finally sorted out our labeling by hand printing our logo onto herringbone tape. We are also working on our paper labeling which you can see on the Sleepytime Wheatbag Softie below. I'm thinking of getting Jess to do a label making tutorial for the blog let me know what you think?

We have been waiting patiently for the fabric to arrive all the way from India for our new range. Here are some pics of our storemen and packers receiving the goods. What would we do without them?

Mathildas Market

Here are some pics from the Mathildas Market, we had a great morning launching some of the new range, check out how cute the new handmade bat softies are....

The bats are made by Jess Wright using old army blankets from the 1940's. And the little sleepy critters are actually wheat bags that you can heat up whenever you feel in need of a warm snuggle. Also in the new range are Emma Byrnes beautiful handmade felt crowns, for little kings and queens. Keep your eye on the horizon for new costumes and toys cos they are just so much fun for us to make!

Mathildas Market this weekend!

Little Harvest is having a stall at the Mathildas Market this Sunday the 14th of March at the Hawthorn Town Hall,360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn ,9am to 1pm. There is plenty of free parking at the back of the Town Hall.
Above is a taste of some Little Harvest goodies you can find at the market.
There will be lots of new products at the stall including linen dresses, toys, crowns and my favourite... softies that are actually wheat bags to keep the winter chills away. As well as the t-shirts and hemp dresses you have seen in previous posts. We hope to see you there ....

Something blowing in the wind.....

Late last year I started printing t-shirts using some drawings that I had loved for a long time under the label Harvest Moon.

Since that time the label has grown and changed....
The first change being the name which is now Little Harvest with a new font to match, there has also a new section of the label called Harvest Play which is just as fun as the name suggests!
The second big change is I am now working as a team with Jess Wright and Emma Byrnes to create products and run textile classes .
As a trio we make a dynamic team and bring many different ideas and skills to the table.
Its been refreshing and inspiring working with these two very skilled ladies with so many good times ahead of us.
All three of us are all mothers and lovers of handmade textiles.
We all appreciate the limitations we have as stay at home parents to put our ideas into action but between the three of us we can lend each other a hand to help make those ideas into a reality!
Its sometimes hectic and there are some very late nights, but there are always a lot of laughs to make it worthwhile.
Yesterday we did a photo shoot at our weekly Little Harvest meeting it was one of those hectic moments when you realize the whole family is running the label together!

Here are some pics from The Rose St Artists Market stall that we had yesterday.It was my first ever market and I had a really fun time!

Thanks to the helping hands of Emma who made beautiful badges from vintage fabric that looked oh so good on the new dresses and tops. And for helping me create the jigsaw of wooden box's and pieces of dowel that became the stall.

Thanks to Jacqui from 'Bear' for making her fantastic bibs that were such a hit with all the customers, and my bubba loves his too! And to my new seamstress Kim who is just magic... she is producing the new dresses and tops for us, the ones pictured are all made from a cotton/hemp blend.It looks and feels like linen but doesn't crush as much.Good for busy little ladies who like to look and feel good.
